  • DROP DIDDLE

This drum fill combines the very common "drop" with a diddle pattern of questionable providence.

  • HI HAT CALVE BURN

This is a great exercise to develop the shape of your open hi hat notes and the endurance of the shin and calve muscle to do so

  • THE LEFT HALF

This etude forces us to perform a half time pattern wherein accented notes and ghost stroke are performed with the left hand

  • LEFT SIDE SONGO

This pattern is born of the same sort of experimentation that typically leads here. That being, the invention of patterns that challenge a weakness in my technique.

  • 333223 LINEAR

A different way to group those 16th notes

  • INSIDE 7

The inspiration for this beat is a simple seven note sticking that starts jus after the first kick drum note and feels as if it is "inside" a larger rhythmic piece.

  • YOUR FIRST DRUM FILL

This fill often times referred to as "Pat Boone Debby Boone" is often times the first if not the second drum fill learned by new students of the drums.

  • HALF TIME SIZZLE

This one is called Half Time Sizzle because it is quite fast while also being a half time groove. I hope you enjoy it, it's one of my favorites in this category.

  • THAT MOTOWN FILL

This fill heard time and time again in music during the Motwon era has become a staple in the drummers repertoire.

  • TOUCH

This lesson is a solid first step to cleaning up your fills and making them sound more professional.

  • RLRFF

This is a nice lesson for someone just getting into linear drumming.

  • HIGH CROSS

It's called "HIGH CROSS" because the hands cross over to play the hi hat and it sounds better and is actually easier to play at increased tempos.

  • RKRLKK LINEAR

This simple phrase is one that you can use time and time again. Here it is demonstrated as 16th notes but also play it as sextuplets and 32nd notes.

  • TURN AROUND

This simple linear phrase helps us change the weight of any phrase from downbeat to up beat or visa versa.

  • SENEGAL

This is a groove inspired by the rhythmic interplay of the drums of Senegal

  • OFF-SET PARADIDDLE HALF TIME SLINK

This exercise uses the paradiddle rudiment in an "off set" fashion in order to create a slinky "Steve Gadd like" groove.

  • LEFT HAND SNEAKER

Sometimes the simplest combinations of Kick, Right, Left are the best. This beat is a great example of that.

  • 10 INCH PULL

This video demonstrates the attribute of "pulling the sound out" of the toms.

  • STARMAN CROSS

This is a fill that I improvised in the video example of the Starman track from YouTube that was commented on as being an interesting topic of study.

  • CHAOS

This 32nd note drum fill sounds like absolute chaos due to the voicing in beat three of the linear figure KKRKRL

  • TRIPLET ILLUSION 7

Triplets grouped in a seven note linear phrase create the illusion of temporarily being in a different time.

  • MOTOWN EXTENSION

Because of its close relationship to the very typical Motown fill, this fill is named with the suffix "Extension" as it elaborates on that typical archetype.

  • THE INVERTED

This is a sudo "tom groove" that makes use of the inverted double

  • TRIPLET ILLUSION 5

This fill uses groups of 5 (RLLRR LRRLL) in a triplet rhythm to create a trippy illusion of temporarily changing time.
