LINEAR NOTEBOOK
It is important to practice and to keep a record of that practice so that you continue to deepen the understanding of the instrument and increase the joy with which you play that instrument all of your life. In this category, I share with you my continuing journey with linear drumming.

LEAD DOUBLE FOOT
This simple but effective drum fill is called Lead Double Foot for the obvious reason, lol I hope you use it as a linear building block for your own fills in a similar fashion.

THE SEVEN TRAP
I called this one "THE SEVEN TRAP" for the obvious reason that it is in seven but also has a sort of trap beat double time hi hat thing to it.

THE WELL PLACED DOUBLE
Overlapping paradiddles in the first two beats of this rhythm make it an exercise to develop the "Well Placed Double"

SEMI HARMONIC
This beat is not quite harmonic yet not entirely linear; a concept that provides us with the opportunity to express variations on a theme using the 2 & 4 on the snare drum as a pivot point.

This one is a bit longer than usual (hence the name) but I thought it necessary to include some theme and variation.

TOM GROOVE J24
I didn't know what else to call it so... TOM GROOVE J24. Obviously it's a tom groove, the "J" is for January and 24 is for the year 2024. I'm sure there will be many more tom grooves moving forward with a similar sort of catalogue name

SWAMP THANG
Swamp Thang is named after the slinky feeling of the left hand hi hat part that feels to me to be reminiscent of a New Orleans feel

TRAPPED 32
I call this Trapped 32 for two reasons. First it sounds to me to be reminiscent of trap music. Also it is a solid grid of 32nd notes.

DROP DIDDLE
This drum fill combines the very common "drop" with a diddle pattern of questionable providence.

HI HAT CALVE BURN
This is a great exercise to develop the shape of your open hi hat notes and the endurance of the shin and calve muscle to do so

THE LEFT HALF
This etude forces us to perform a half time pattern wherein accented notes and ghost stroke are performed with the left hand

OFF-SET PARADIDDLE HALF TIME SLINK
This exercise uses the paradiddle rudiment in an "off set" fashion in order to create a slinky "Steve Gadd like" groove.

10 INCH PULL
This video demonstrates the attribute of "pulling the sound out" of the toms.

STARMAN CROSS
This is a fill that I improvised in the video example of the Starman track from YouTube that was commented on as being an interesting topic of study.

THE INVERTED
This is a sudo "tom groove" that makes use of the inverted double

MOTOWN EXTENSION
Because of its close relationship to the very typical Motown fill, this fill is named with the suffix "Extension" as it elaborates on that typical archetype.

TRIPLET ILLUSION 7
Triplets grouped in a seven note linear phrase create the illusion of temporarily being in a different time.

TRIPLET ILLUSION 5
This fill uses groups of 5 (RLLRR LRRLL) in a triplet rhythm to create a trippy illusion of temporarily changing time.

LEFT SIDE SONGO
This pattern is born of the same sort of experimentation that typically leads here. That being, the invention of patterns that challenge a weakness in my technique.
